There’s always some change going on at Disney World, but the main changes at the moment seem focussed at Disney’s competitor to Universal Studios, Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios (DHS) isn’t in Hollywood at all, in fact it is the new name for the well established MGM Studios theme park in Disney World Orlando.
So with the new name, what else has happened over at DHS. Well there’s definitely been an out with the old and in with the new at the theme park. After Disney’s purchase of the PIXAR studios, Disney have been looking at hot to integrate the PIXAR movies into the parks, so have come up with PIXAR Place, replacing part of Mickey Avenue. The hotly awaited Toy Story Mania attraction has newly opened here, replacing the old Who Wants to be a Millionaire show.
DHS also has many weekend events to keep fans of many genres happy. Star Wars fans will be anxiously waiting for the Star Wars Weekends that take place during June this year (it’s certainly going to be hot for a Wookie in Orlando in June). Stars of the movies attend autograph sessions and you can actually meet Darth Vader! Other events include the Super Soap Weekends where you can meet stars of the show.
American Idol is also coming to the park in the form of the American Idol Experience in January 2009. The recent winner announced “I’m going to Disney World” on an ad after he won the show.
